How to Do Content Marketing on Any Budget

Hey there,

Here’s how to do B2B content marketing on any budget (from $1k to $10k+ per month):

💰 $1k/month: Newsletter + LinkedIn

With only $1,000 to invest into content marketing, I’d recommend starting a weekly email newsletter and posting on LinkedIn 3-5 times per week.

If you have a good understanding of your target audience and their pain points (and how to solve them), writing a weekly newsletter email shouldn’t take you a massive amount of time.

Ideally, you’d be able to repurpose your newsletter content into 3-5 LinkedIn posts, which should speed up your content creation process even further.

I’d spend the entire $1k monthly budget on Facebook Lead Ads promoting your newsletter. Focus on job title targeting and aim to get subscribers at $2-$5 each.

💰💰 $2k/month: Start publishing SEO content

If you have a $2k/month budget, you can start creating SEO content.

On average, a well-written SEO article written by a freelance writer will cost you around $500 (there are definitely cheaper and more expensive options, too). Which means you can publish around 4 SEO articles per month.

Focus on SEO content with high conversion potential: product/service roundups, competitor comparisons, and how-to guides where your product or service is essential to solving a paint point.

💰💰💰 $4k/month: Scale SEO content

At $4k/month, you can move a bit faster and publish ~8 SEO articles per month.

Once you’ve created content targeting all keywords with high conversion potential, move on to creating content around top-of-the-funnel keywords to develop topical authority and help Google see your website as an authority on your core topics.

💰💰💰💰 $8k/month: SEO content + paid distribution

At $8k/month, you can keep creating around 8 SEO articles/month and start experimenting with paid distribution through Google, LinkedIn, and Facebook ads.

Repackage some of your content into an ebook or an email course and use it as a lead magnet in your ad campaigns.

Or, double down on content production to try and move the needle even faster.

At this point, it would also be wise to invest into link building to give your content a better chance of ranking.

💰💰💰💰💰 $10k+/month: Hire someone

If you can invest $10k/month into content marketing, I’d suggest you hire an experienced Head of Content or content marketing consultant to guide your content marketing strategy.

And think about investing in different types of content (including video) to hedge your bets and not rely solely on SEO.
