The No. 1 SaaS Link Building Tactic

Hey there,

Today I’d like to talk about my favorite SaaS link building tactic.

It’s called listicle outreach.

There are two reasons why I love it so much:

✅ It converts REALLY well – The last listicle outreach campaign I did got a 65% open rate and a 17% reply rate, generating 24 backlinks after just 182 emails sent.

✅ It results in highly valuable backlinks – The links you get using this tactic don’t just boost your link profile, but they can also drive visitors that are very close to buying or signing up for a software solution.

Here’s how it works:

1. Find software roundup posts

Perform a Google search to find software roundup posts covering tools that are in the same category as yours (e.g., “X Best Digital Marketing Tools in 2024”).

If your tool fits into multiple categories, make sure to find roundups for each category.

2. Reach out

Now, you’re going to reach out to these websites and ask them to include your software on the list.

You can use a tool like Apollo.io to identify the right person to contact (usually a content or SEO manager) and find their email address.

3. Offer something in return

Here’s the most important part: you need to offer them something in return.

No one’s going to include your software on their list just because you asked.

From my experience, offering a link or guest post on your website or a partner website in return tends to work really well.

Once they agree to include your software on the list, make sure to be a good link partner and send them a description of your software that’s in the same style as the other tools on their list.

And hold up your end of the deal and give them what you promised, whether that’s a link, a guest post, or something else.
